ABOUT US

DISCOVER FOR YOURSELF...

We are a Family run Boerboel breeding programme in the South of England, just outside of the New Forest. Health, structure, temperament and quality care are at the heart of everything we do. Our puppies are raised in our home with constant 1-1 time, giving them the best start in life. We're proud to produce elite guardians that thrive in family life, and with demand from all around the world, our pups really do speak for themselves.

Our love for the Boerboel breed began generations ago.  Freya's family came over from South Africa in the early 2000's, and her grandfather owned Boerboels after serving his country for many years in the national service. Unfortunately he is no longer with us, but we hope to honour him through our programme, and feel blessed to share the same love for such an incredible breed.

Freya spent her summers with her other set of grandparents, who were retired and in their spare time helped raise and train service dog puppies for the blind, deaf and disabled. They owned a farm in the welsh countryside, where she gained a love for all things canine and animal related. From helping to birth lambs, bottle feeding, giving medicine and care to the older or sick animals on the farm and training the young spritely dogs we had to behave around the livestock from the ages of 5-15. When Freya was 15, she decided to buy her first Boerboel to continue her love for training, and see how far she could go with a breed a bit spicier than the labradors, collies, and shepherds she typically worked with. This would spark a deep passion and love for the breed; and later decided to take a leap into the art of Boerboel breeding. Inbetween that time she took multiple jobs learning about specifics of Canine reproduction and whelping, and helped to rear over 40 litters in this time, encountering many adversities and life or death scenarios that really puts into perspective how imperative it is to stay educated and aware during the whelp and raising of puppies. Now many years later applies everything she learned to our own programme, which could not be where it is today without such lengthy learning periods.

Our lines at the moment are mainly comprised of dogs from Bodington, Bostu, Klein Sandfontein, Ysterberg, Spitsvuur, Cabaret. Our aim in breeding is to combine the working and show lines of Boerboels, to produce a striking, athletic but large and imposing look, keep the health and longevity of our dogs at the highest it can possibly be and produce a stable temperament that allows them to be versatile, mainly loving family pets and guardians, but still have a strong protective instinct, and workability/ drive that can be improved upon if the owner decides they want to tap into that side of them more.

We invest hugely into the health of our programme and guarantee that every single breeding dog has by minimum standards have passing hips/elbows, a heart check and a clear DNA test. Currently we do not have any dogs in our programme that have scored lower than A2-A2 0-0. This may change, as I believe health testing is a tool, however our goal is to be producing consistent A-A 0-0 dogs which we have currently achieved.

All of our dogs live in our house with our family, we currently have a couple of dogs on a partnership basis that also live inside homes with children. All placed with exceptionally knowledgeable people that we have fantastic communication with. When it is their time to be bred, they will, of course, come back to us so we can raise the puppies to our puppy programme. We believe this is a better approach to keeping dogs in kennels, where you can't truly assess their temperaments until they live in your home and interact with you daily. With a guardian breed this is essential, as there will be harder dogs that need matching to calmer temperaments in order to be ethically bred, or even some that turn out to be too extreme to the breed standard and should not be bred. This would become very apparent if living in a home, but could go undetected in a kennel. Luckily we have not encountered such dogs in our programme yet, but as with any guardian breeds you should be prepared for any serious temperament under the breed standard.

All of our time when we have puppies in house is dedicated to raising, cleaning and socialising them. We have a very rigorous puppy programme that we have spent years curating, with science backed protocols and methods that are proven to improve puppies temperaments, health, nervous system and overall nature. We do not waste a second from the moment they are born to the moment they leave us we spend making sure they are the best puppies they can be. Click here to read more about our puppy programme.

We attend breed shows to prove our dogs, and have had lots of success in the show ring. The shows we have are limited in the UK, so we also maintain a close relationship with NABBR (North American Boerboel Breeders Registry) who appraise all of our breeding dogs and give feedback on what we can improve. The appraisal system is a very important part of the Boerboel breed, for those who don't know it is a scoring system, that scores a dog on every point of their body, conformation, movement, temperament etc. A good breeding dog should score anywhere from 80-95%.

We offer lifetime support and a 1 year genetic health guarantee for all Imperial family members. We are always on hand regarding anything, including diet, training and any other dog related queries. Every puppy is sent home with a detailed puppy pack which includes health testing documents, information about the parents, a deep dive breeder's evaluation on the individual puppy, tailored guidance on diet and training, crafted from our extensive experience.

We follow strict rules and ethics regarding our programme, especially when it comes to selecting adult dogs that are above the minimum age of 18 months old, and have undergone comprehensive health and temperament testing. This is often a step many breeders overlook, opting for young, immature and untested dogs. Without proper evaluation of the breeding dogs they can pass down bad health and temperament genes to the puppies. Potentially resulting in extremely high vet bills or unsafe temperaments for families and children. In contrast we are very committed to breeding only the best health and temperaments from our adult breeding dogs to pass down to our puppies.
